Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara: Worth the Hype?

by - 13.12.17

I'm a bit late on the bandwagon aren't I? No, maybe, yes? Actually, let's face it, I'm literally in the dinosaur age.

The one mascara to rule them all, Maybelline Lash Sensational. Everyone loves it, it's a cult favourite and now I've tried it too.

THE PACKAGING

Before I bought this mascara, I read some reviews and loads of people were complaining about how bulky it is. Honestly, I don't understand why it matters so much. Usually, the packaging is a bit skinnier on mascara but in those cases they're longer and therefore don't fit easily into makeup bags. For me, packaging isn't that big of a deal. It's not that big and feels comfortable to hold. It's also easy to travel with, and the colour is pretty too. There's not much to say on that.

It is more on the expensive side. I'm currently on the hunt for a dupe and I think I've found one from Essence cosmetics for 1/4 of the price as this one is 15 Euros. Some people might say that it isn't expensive but I personally, I don't think it's worth spending that much money on a mascara all the time. It's all relative my friends!

THE PRODUCT

I have reasonably lengthy lashes but they don't have a lot of curl to them.

What makes this mascara so amazing is the wand. The wand has multiple layers of bristles that allows every lash to be coated evenly and to provide that lift effect. The inner curve helps you really get to the root of the lashes as it fits the eye shape perfectly. No smudging whatsoever so don't worry about that at all!

One thing I would say is that when I first tried it, I didn't understand what the hype was about. It transferred to under my eyes and onto my eyelid. But what you need to do is let it dry out a bit, otherwise it's quite clumpy and gloopy. I think that's where most people go wrong with this.

I still curl my lashes when I use this. Then I usually apply one-two coats and that's it. It's hard to go wrong with this one. I have quite sensitive eyes but this doesn't cause any problems. This mascara is waterproof but it quite easy to remove as well. I usually use the HEMA Bye Bye Eye Makeup Remover Lotion (review).

OVERALL

I would definitely repurchase the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. It has a great formula and stays put all day. However, this wouldn't be a regular purchase for me as although it's worth the money, I can't bring myself to spend that much on a mascara every time. If you have the money, then 100% please give this a go if you haven't yet! Totally worth the hype.

What's your favourite affordable mascara that you think I should try out?

  3. I remember really disliking this a lot when I first purchased it, but after a while it grew on me and it became one of my favourite mascaras ever! I need to repurchase it some day, it's been too long since it's been in my collection.

    1. I felt the exact same way at the start! I wish there were more reviews that gave advice on how to use it rather than just stating how good it is, which is why I tried to include that in. x You definitely need to try it again xx Nikita
